In St John’s Wood, London, Berryrange Ltd installed an approx. 14.0m long sheet pile wall to facilitate excavation for basement pours supporting the construction of a new mixed-use development.

This site presented the challenge of highly restricted access with little working space.

Piling needed to be installed directly adjacent to existing structures and site hoarding, where there was insufficient room to install regular sheet piles. To address this, 23 NS-SP-J at 9.0m in length were installed using our JZ100 Zero Piler.

The JZ100 Zero Piler is a unique piling press in that it requires zero clearance, allowing sheet piling to be installed directly against existing structures in a way that would otherwise be impossible. It also creates zero vibrations, perfect for use in an urban environment. Berryrange Ltd are lucky enough to own the only Zero Piler in Europe.

In order to set up the reaction stand in the limited space, dummy piles perpendicular to the final wall were installed and the piler moved in between existing concrete piles in a space that would have otherwise been inaccessible with a standard silent piling press.

The ground onsite consisted of firm to stiff London Clay, and a 60tne Grove GMK3060 mobile crane was used for pitching piles.

With the construction of this wall complete despite the limited space, excavation could take place to allow the new construction of St John’s Wood Square.
